Roger Vivier heels

Hi all!

I am trying to give an accurate date to this pair of heels and I am having some trouble. My gut is telling me they are 70s but I am finding it difficult to nail it down, which is why I am asking for a little help from the VFG forum.

Here are some details that might help. The shoes are marked as a 7 1/2 M, which fit my clodhoppers just fine (I'm a modern 8 1/2. I should also add that I know not to trust marked vintage sizing). The heels of those shoes are about 3" in height.

What I have noticed a lot is that Vivier did a line of shoes for Saks and these shoes are stamped 'Holt Renfrew France' on the heel of both insoles. Holts is the Canadian version of Saks and as far as I know, has never had an outlet in France. Maybe these were part of some wild 70s capsule collection representing France that Holt Renfrew did? I know Holts carried Vivier shoes but have never seen another example quite like these or ones that have the Holt Renfrew stamp.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
V

Nice shoes, agree with 70s, seems the earlier part of the decade. We have a member here who is a known authority on shoes, who has literally "written the book" (several books actually) on vintage shoes. Perhaps he will be along and give us more of his input.

The "France" stamp along with the HR name may indicate that HR had a office address in Paris. This would allow them to use the France in their name without actually having a retail store there. Not sure of course, but this practice was used by a number of USA stores going back to at least the late 1800s.
