Salma! Salma, what are you thinking?

This dress is hideous! I could not believe my eyes, when I saw this, as I was checking out through the grocery line. It appears that her body has been overtaken by a giant insect. I even asked the cute guy behind me in line, what he thought of it, and he agreed. UG!

I think she needs to give vintage a try. Lord knows, she has plenty o' money.

I'm with Ang. The dress is from McQueen's Spring 2010 collection, his last before his death. Here's a video of the first half of the runway show. If you can get past the styling of the models (and deal with the now infamous hoof shoes) the clothes are quite beautiful to me. Reptilian, yes. "Look At My Lady Parts", sortakindamaybe. But amazing.

Salma's dress is the second one, I think. I've seen other celebrities wearing dresses from this collection that looked better in them.

I'm not a fan of this particular dress. It does indeed have a very insect/snakelike quality to the artwork which makes me cringe because I have insect issues. It really messes with my head which I suppose great art is supposed to do. Can a appreciate it? Absolutely, especially in the context of the runway show above. Is it unique and interesting? Definitely. Would I wear it or like it on someone else worn as a cocktail dress? Not so much.

Salma has built her style around classic and elegant designs for the most part, and I think that this dress doesn't quite suit her curves. It actually does her no favors in the hip area. I think these styles better commented the boyish figures of the models who wore them on the runway.

Amber, thank you for putting into words, exactly some of the things that this dress makes me feel. It is indeed, polarizing, love it or hate it, high fashion.
I'm sure the dress is a wonder in person, yet I think it best confined to the catwalk. It seems as if hair is sprouting from Salma's chest; I must look away! The show is amazing, though it makes me feel ill at ease. I like that art can have that effect; it certainly isn't dull.

I think Salma liked that collection - she has worn another piece from it on the red carpet before. This is an interesting comparison of 3 celebs in different McQueen reptile print dresses. Naomi Campbell is wearing the dress that Salma wears on the In Style cover.

Of the three, I think I like Naomi best, then Anna Paqin, then Salma Hayek.

I love Salma and her choice of dress shows that she's not frightened to be challenging, that she's secure enough in herself to not always go for the "beautiful" or "sexy" choice. Good for her!

As for us lesser mortals, I'm happy to choose dresses that reduce my figure flaws or enhance my complexion. But I love that there are brave ladies out there pushing those boundaries.

When I saw it my first thought was "How cool is that!" I love it!:D I don't have the figure for it now, but I would totally wear it if I did.

Still love it this morning. I love the Geiger-esque print married with feminine figure hugging lines...the colours take the graphic imagery to a different level than what we're used to seeing it in (black, grey, silver with splashes of reds).

As far as her choosing it for the cover, I don't think its up to the covergirl....thats the stylist, and likely McQueen factored heavily into the content of the issue.

I can't say I love that dress or the last Alexander McQueen collection - it does evoke 'Queen of the LIzard people' in my mind.... but I do like that its new. Frankly, I am really tired of everything looking like its a recycled vintage piece. I know that sounds weird coming from someone in this organization, but there has been very little creativity in dress since the mid 1990s - its been about restyling vintage designs, not creating new fashions. I am happy to see dresses that are exploring new ways of being cut and printed, and shoes that are looking at new heel shapes and designs - its about time!

You do have a point there about new styles - but I can't help myself, I personally don't like this new style... It's just not my thing, I wouldn't want to wear it even if I could. However, I too think Naomi Campbell looks better in this particular dress.

I am so with Jonathan on this; if we don't see any truly new designs, what will the future of vintage be like? I love vintage clothing, but I want there to continue to be innovative work influencing fashion.

(Not that I really like this print  ...I'd love to see some other symmetrical and screaming-loud design, like a Rorschach test?)

Funny ... for about the last 10 years or so that it's going to be difficult for future generations to easily discern one era's styles from another because they've become so cyclical.

Even now, we have to look at tiny construction nuances, prints, and fabrics to date a garment. Imagine what it will be like in 50 years if fashion continues to repeat itself! Reproduction fabrics and prints ... !

Diana --> who would rather be here: :beach:

I'm with Julie! It's not one of my favourite McQueen creations. I've seen Salma look a whole lot better. It's just way too 'busy' for her tiny frame.

I'm on the fence. I love McQueen and love this print, but it is a bit much for Salma. But I think about stuff in my closet that I have no business wearing (like a soft gold DVF babydoll dress) but I love it anyway. Ultimately, I'd choose something I love over something flattering I guess, and with McQueen's passing, I think even celebs are willing to run the risk of being on the DON"T list to wear the great late designer's collection.
