Hi there,

I posted this last week and then I steamed the crap out of it (soooooooooo not fun w/this thick material). Anyhoo, I threw on a belt/rope that I found and made it pouffier - how are the pics now?
Thanks!

I like the pouf!!

It looks great!

The rope/belt is hard to see with all the color going on. I might take it off and leave the accessorizing up to the person's imagination. It needs a bold belt to compliment the graphic quality of the dress...or be left without one and just let the dress speak for itself. Something dimunitive gets lost with the boldness

I agree about the belt.

It looks nice with the poof, but I think I'd try to get even more. Do you have another petticoat?

Laura

I have another crinoline, but didn't think to add it :(
What sort of belt/sash do you suggest?

If it were me and you didn't have anything that was perfect, I would show it with nothing. But if you have a patent leather belt or i think the suggestion in the other thread was red.... the belt would come acrossed the pink stripe so you could also do pink, but i would make for certain the look of the belt worked.

Will the fact that it's a vintage size 16 help or hurt this dress? It's much bigger than I thought (and I was veryyyyyyyyyy tempted to keep it myself, but as with everything else I keep, I never end up wearing it!)
I forgot to mention, it also has it's original tags!
Back in the day it cost $15.00!! Yowza!

A vintage size 16 is a very good thing. I believe it roughly translates to around a modern 10, though of course the actually measurements are the best indicator of fit and sizes have gradually changed over the years so a 50's 16 is a little different from a 60's 16 which is a little different from a 70's 16, etc.

And I love NOS/NWT items! That should be a plus for you because bidders then know that the item has at the most been tried on. Some sellers don't go into much detail with condition, so when I see 'New Old Stock with tags, no flaws found' I feel pretty good about the chances that it will be as described. Good luck!

Angela,

Thanks so much! The actual measurements on the dress are:
Length: 44"
Bust: Up to 40"
Waist: Up to 30"
Hips: Full

Would that add up to a modern 10? I'm really lousy with measurements = sizing. I only know what fits me ;)
It's weird that it still has it's tags, because you'd think if the tag managed to survive, so would the original belt! It was sold through a store called Hemilock's or Hemlock's, I can't quite recall.

Yeah, I would be comfortable calling that an 8-10 with no problem. However, if you mention that in your description, make sure to caution bidders that that is just your educated guess and that manufacturers differ in sizing and that measurements are the most reliable indication of fit. I sell a lot of modern dresses as well as vintage and I would expect a modern size 8 or 10 dress with this fitted cut to have just about exactly those measurements.
