Saxon's Denver Silk Specialties

Hi! I have a pink silk top that I am trying to date/find information on. The only label says Saxon's Denver Silk Specialties. I have searched the internet and haven't found a single result for this shop/label. If anyone has heard of Saxon's Denver or could help me date this beauty, I would greatly appreciate it :). Thank you!

Hi Steph,

It looks like a cute pyjama top or perhaps the top half of a nightgown that's been shortened: can you tell if the hem is original? A little hard to date - is there anything on the underside of that label? A size or care instructions will help.

Can you tell if the lace is nylon or rayon? Thank you.

The 1930 Denver directory records the Russian-born Saxonof family as owners of and employees at Saxon's Silk Specialties. In the 1930 census, father Adolf Saxonof was a salesman at the "Silk Underwear Factory," his daughter Mary was a designer (and "cutter"?), daughter Esther was a bookkeeper, daughter Eva was a shipping clerk, daughter Betty was a designer (and "cutter"?), and son "Seadore" was a manager at the factory.

In 1926 the family was recorded at work at "Saxon's Specialties, Inc; Mail Order House" at 827 16th.

Thanks for replying! I will try to answer your questions (I'm a novice)! There is nothing on the other side of the label and no care instructions or sizing anywhere. That is the only tag; it doesn't look like any tags have been removed. I do think it has been shortened- the hem is a little funky in places. I'm not sure how to tell the fabric type of the lace- it is soft, doesn't have stretch, doesn't feel fragile... I attached a picture, if that helps at all. Thank you so much for taking the time to help!

Wow, that is really interesting! So it may be from the 30s? I love the details from the census!

The 1929 directory records them at Saxon's Specialties, Inc, which noted in 1926 that it was "ladies' wearing apparel." So, it seems your item can be no earlier than 1930.

That is useful- thank you! Do you think 1930s is a good guess for era?

And by the way, you all are so helpful. I always feel like I should bake y'all cookies after I post on here!

It looks like the name Saxon's Silk Specialties was only used until 1934, after which the company name seems to be "A. Saxonof," so I think that narrows the date of your item to somewhere between 1930-1933.

Amazing detective work! I am so grateful!

Yes, I can happily accept early '30s for this piece, considering the information on fabric and labels - I think it's the top of a pair of pyjamas. Perhaps a trousseau. The condition looks brand new! Pity you don't have the pant, they would probably be wide and flaring with a button opening on the side.
