I was told this was a man's scarf like Opera Scarf of an Oil man in OK.
It is sheer (crepe?) and embroidered.
Is this plausible or is it a ladies?
Thanks for any help in advance.
So possibly 1960s for the wife of an oilman? I remembered this scarf with the news today of the oilman divorce. (teehee)
I searched but could not find a ladies scarf in this style. Is there a name for it? Opera scarf for ladies?
Thank you.

Hope ok to put this here. Poppy's has a lovely mens crepe scarf. http://www.rubylane.com/item/597169-RL-poppy2247/Vintage-1940s-Mens-Fringed-Scarf-Crepe
Maybe with the embroidery for sure a ladies? Wish I knew the history of such a thing.
Yes, crepe exactly like the fabric resource of VFG. Sheer and is double with backing.
I was thinking maybe older but did not want to push it.
I did buy it in Ok. and was told owned by a wealthy oil family?
Oklahoma oil was huge money at one time and to read about it during depression is extremely interesting.
Many Art Deco buildings are still there.
Maybe they had matching ones but different?

Chiffon and crepe look about the same to me but have had lots of chiffon as I am a chiffonaholic and it does not look like it to me.
Thanks. It is basically "hey, that looks like it needs saving' with me and is pretty.
Why I need all of you and this fine organization!
That is the weirdest subject for am embroidery I have ever seen! It's funny how industrial views were not historically seen as unattractive. Nowadays we distance ourselves as much as possible from industrial views, not make them the subject of an artwork!
The mast appears to be on a hill or something - for some reason I thought oilrigs were built on flat land? so I'm wondering if it is a mast for radio/tv etc. The trees relate to the central image. The ocean is under what appears to be a steamboat, and the buildings to the right look like mills. So they are all commercial/industrial scenes of one type or another. I could believe it was made for the wife of a prolific businessman.
Such an interesting scarf and I agree with Nicole....looks like silk georgette and MJ's 20s date! I wonder if those little flowers are supposed to be Texas Bluebells??? The embroidery is so dainty for such a heavy duty subject matter!
