serging

Sergers have been around a long time, but they weren't used on better garments until about the late 1970s.

I found a blk blouse in my collection today with white serged seams. In my experience, wht serging indicates a foreign inexpensive garment.

Have you thought about the earliest better garment you've seen with serging.

Thanks for your input.

I once had a child's knit undershirt with serged seams that had the date in a woven label. I remember it as the 1910's. I no longer have the image.

I've always understood that serging started being used earlier on undergarments than on outer garments, so the earlier examples tend to be lingerie, underwear and swimwear. Presumably that applies to better garments too.
