Lots of us are sellers of vintage, but we also collect and/or wear vintage too. So what have you found lately that you are keeping for yourself?

One of the things I collect is vintage sportswear - tennis & golfing ensembles, bathing suits, gym attire... This weekend I found a great early 1920s, or possibly very late 10s, tennis skirt.

So what's your latest?

I'm dreadful at parting with *anything* ... I'm having a rest from selling these Hardy Amies outfits as it really is awful having to say goodbye to them. :(

I shall absoloutely hate getting rid of that eveing dress that I can't breathe properly in... and I shall be incredibly upset when I sell the matching 60s dress and coat that I haven't even taken pictures of yet.

And I have a bright pink ruffly blouse that hasn't fitted me since I aquired a proper chest, but I can't bear to part with it yet! I love it too much. :( ....to be perfectly honest I've only just thrown out the last of my clothes that I bought as a child that listed the size in height! Most of them still fitted me too, but it seemed silly keeping childrens clothes when I had three wardrobes full of fabulous 60s gear by Biba, Pucci and Samuel Sherman to be wearing!

love, moons and starrs,
Senti.*

As far as very recent...A 60s Velvet top and LBD that i probably will never have an occassion to wear it to. A voice went off in my head that said "No, little black dresses don't translate well on the internet, in photos, etc. so you MUST keep it to wear". you must! :)

Also, a mother of pearl carryall like i have always wanted.

Lizzie...

I knew that you collected things pertaining to Scottish Terriers, and Mod clothing, right?, but I didn't know you collected vintage sportswear :) Yes, and i want to see it too.

I shall absoloutely hate getting rid of that eveing dress that I can't breathe properly in

I hate to say it...but that's when you really know you have the bug.!!!

This is not the latest find but I have not been able to part with this 50s 49er Pendleton jacket. It fits!

Pretty much every vintage purse I buy.

(I know I say this everytime.. but only 'cause it's true!)

The last time I tried to sell a vintage purse online, no one would pay enough to make it worthwhile for me to sell it.

Sorry... for $15-$20 I'd rather keep every last one of them!:USING:

Chris, I actually collect all eras of the 20th century, but I've found myself being especially attracted to sports clothing. I look for tennis outfits from all eras, and one of my favorites is a knit one from the 70s. I also like swimsuits and (gasp!) gymsuits.

I've begun to think that looking at them makes me feel athletic!

Pictures to come...

Anyone else?

Okay, it has taken me a while, but here are a few pictures:

The teens tennis skirt. It has been shortened about 2 inches. Bought from a relative of the wearer, the pockets are the perfect size for a tennis ball.

There are stays built into the waist.

Also, I recently got a 40s playsuit off eBay. It looks to be made from an old tablecloth, but was actually manufactured from a border print.

I love the skirt!

And btw i am always not clear on the technical definition of what a playsuit is (i always associate the term with kid's clothes). I am used to actually seeing them as with short legs/similiar to a romper/faux bathing suit a la 50s style...but i guess this being earlier, the shorts would have gone under the skirt so ladies could participate in leisure sports without having their underwear show/ Guess i did not play much LOL or actually, with clothing so unisex nowadays there really doesn't seem to have been a call for them after maybe the mid 60s. Now you just pull on some shorts and a t-shirt.

A playsuit is the short jumpsuit. In the 40s and 50s, there was usually a matching skirt, like this one. Usually one finds just the playsuit, without the matching skirt. There is a 50s set on eBay now that I'm really wanting. These were made in the days when a lady did not go to town or to the market in shorts! Just pop on the skirt and go.

In the 70s, I had several bodysuits (like a leotard with snaps at the crotch for ease in, well you know ;) ) with matching or contrasting wrap skirts.

I had a few body suits like that too. I had one that was from the 70s. But there were quite a few you could buy like that in the early 90s as well. maybe it was a comeback.

Ah, yes, it was apropriate for a young teen to go in her clamdiggers but proper ladies didn't :)

I love that floral, 40's playsuit. Perfect for summer!<P>
I held on to this for a long, long time but I did decide to sell it last week. I love this because it was hand made with a lot of care and skill. <P><img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/pinky-a-gogo/jacket.jpg><P><img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/pinky-a-gogo/jacket2.jpg>

In Search of the Lost Beachset...

Now I'd bought this for possible resale. It was advertised as 'hippie boho 70s' but I suspected it wasn't.

It's not:

Here's the seller's photo:

</p>

But the real thing is a totally different colour:
<p align="center">
<img src="http://archive.noirboudoir.com/researchimages/lesertopfull.jpg" width=400 border=1></p>

It's <i>gorgeous</i>, and I can just fit into it (note to self: cut down on the Chinese takeaways).

It's a little elasticated at the front, lined in cream ?calico? or whatever you can call that fine-but-course creamy cotton. These strappy straps with a tie effect seem to feature on a few of Leser's designs, particularly an amazing sari-sundress that I was devastated to see go well out of my reach on Ebay lately.

It seems 50s rather than even 60s to me, particularly because of the shape of the bodice and the richness of the Indian print. What do you all think?

Now I imagine this must have been part of a two or three piece sunsuit. The cloth has a kind of diagonal texture to it that makes me think of playsuits:

</p>

Now... I'm wistfully thinking of the full set (if it had shorts, I doubt I could fit into them though).
Everyone, if you ever see a Leser separate in this print, drop everything! Send me a telegram or put out an emergency radio call! I'd be so happy to find the matching pieces, though I doubt I ever will.

This top is in such good condition, that I'd be surprised if the other pieces that went with it were worn out...

Ah. Probably wishful thinking.

Anyway, another purchase 'for sale' that won't be sold. I'll never make a businesswoman...
