Sharing some good news!

Just thought I'd share a bit of good news. :) Here's a few photos of my mannequin that's now proudly displayed in one of my local shops. It all happened by pure chance and good luck really since I sell exclusively online through my website and Etsy. Anyway, there's been some refurbishment work going on in a shop just on the corner from where I live (it couldn't be more convenient)!

On Sunday, I decided to stop by with my daughter and say a friendly 'hello' and got chatting to the owner. He was very interested to hear about my online vintage business and suggested I put a rail of my clothes in the shop. He's actually a hairdresser by trade and the front of the shop will be his hairdressing business. The back of the shop is for all his retro and vintage furniture and there's two large windows which can be seen from the main road. It's well lit day and night.

So my mannequin is placed proudly in the large window along with my business cards and details of the dress. I'm going to change the mannequin every week. I only put her in yesterday and already there's been a lot of interest and my cards have been taken too.

Joe, the owner will be opening the hairdressers at the beginning of December. I'm wondering if this might be a very useful contact since he'll probably do hair shows and so on. Perhaps he can use some of my clothes for the shows? Who knows. Anyway, all this is for free so it just goes to show how a friendly 'hello' can turn out to be something quite beneficial.

I did offer to pay for the display but Joe reckons my clothes will definitely attract people into his shop so it's all good. I'm definitely going to get my hair cut there as soon as they open. Seems rude not to and since he's worked on lots of hair publications in the past, I'm sure he'll be very good indeed. It's all very positive. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :excited:

A few little photos of the surrounding area where I live. There's lots and lots of little cafe bars, bistros and independent shops.

Thanks Diane. :) There's a lot going on around here with new businesses springing up all the time. The economic climate obviously hasn't affected everyone. :)

There's a very lovely bridal shop that's just opened a couple of weeks back. The windows are so pretty and inviting. There's certainly a lovely 'village feel' about this area although I'm only a few miles south of the centre of Manchester.

Yes, Manchester is the third largest city in the UK with the largest student population in Europe. It's a very popular place! I live in about 4 miles south of the city and a 10 minute drive to the airport. It's quite leafy around here. :) If anyone would like to visit, I have a couple of camp beds - you're very welcome!

There was a lot of investment put into the re-development of Manchester following the IRA bombing in 1996. I was actually sat at my office desk when it went off just a couple of streets away. Amazingly no-one died but there was a hell of a lot of damage as you can imagine. Since then, the people of Manchester have pulled together and improved the city beyond belief. It's a beautiful city.

GREAT SCORE! And Didsbury is THE place for your clothes! and selling vintage! Maybe one day ...you can open your own store!!! Keep it going!!!

3 cheers!!!!

Way cool, Louise! :excited:

What a beautiful neighborhood ... I wanna come live there. Oops, there goes my grass-is-greener syndrome.

Anyway, I think it's a fabulous marketing idea -- and it's right where you live!!! My hairdresser has a case where they sell jewelry on consignment and I thought about asking her if I could put some vintage in there, but her shop is an hour away and I really didn't want to have to go "tend shop" more frequently than my quarterly visits. Hairdressers and fashion just go together!

I travel though manchester about once every year or two. You MUST tell me where this district is. Is there a good vintage scene? I've never seen anything on my previous travels Is it called Didsbury?

Congrats on the great marketing opportunity. The shop is beautiful. Good luck!

Oh thank you everyone for your kind words of support. You can ALL come to visit any time. :headbang:

I would never have thought to ask about putting her in the window but Joe was so interested to hear all about the vintage clothes. I'm sure she will attract more people into his shop but it's great that he's supporting a local small business like mine. I can just about see the shop window from my house so it really is very handy. And, it looks even better at night. The dress really stands out beautifully.

And Linda! If your daughter owns a salon it will be perfect and a real talking point for all her clients. Have a stack of your cards for everyone to pass out and spread the word. Free marketing - plus, what girl doesn't like talking fashion? :spin:
