Sharkskin Suit (and what is this style element?) UPDATE!

I had a faux metallicy sharkskin like suit i showed last week or so...now here is the real thing (i am pretty certain!) Yippee. And the PANTS too!

I have 2 suits and several sport coats from an estate. They are all from the 1960s from a long closed Detroit department store that closed its foors in the late 60s, but was around for many years before that. (and I DO have the labels for Lizzie with dates already to go!) But there is one design element that confused me here on this one...

This is not confusing but unusual . (extra button?) was mounted on the other side. One could potentially button it tradiitionall or go the other way.

Now here is the thing...there is a small vent on either side of the back created a ..okay...excuse the term...but a butt flap over just the central bacl vent. I am used to seeing one back vent in this time frame. any thoughts? The other few are really definitely 1960s (the jackets that are not shown here in this post but believe me they are very cool) but this little element confuses me.

Fabric has multicolored slubs. What would one label the color looking at the top pictures?

The fiancé has a couple of those with the back flap things - that's how he prefers them (if I'm picturing what you're saying right).
What size is that suit?
Hmm.. I'm seeing a blue hue & greenish suit :)

Get back to me on the size - if it fits him, I'm-a-bidding!
Oh, and are the legs pegged? Cuffed?

Funny that out of the light the suit looks kinda like a bronzey color with different slubs in the fabric...i do see blacks and greens on my monitor though too.

My male dress form is 42" at the high chest. I still need to take the measures of the full suit to get the exact chesr measurement. It fits at least that though of course. I will go look around for the ever disappearing tape measure. I believe the pants are cuffed, but i will double check on that. (with a flurry of suits etc..i can't quite remember...)

This could be going in my mall store instead of ebay, but i will keep you posted on that as well.

Do you mean it has side vents rather then a central back vent? I do think you see those in the 60s.

Sometimes a button is reinforced by having another button sewn on the inside and connected to the outside one with thread through the fabric. It can also make a handy place to store a spare button.

The 'butt flap' is called a double vent. The 'single split' is a single vent.

Silly girls :hysterical:

Oh, i guess i am so used to seeing them DIRECTLY on the sides as in some ladies clothes.

BTW Sharonne, i found i also have a black with pinstripes suit with said vents and a green faux sharksin that i think does too. i will have to measure them all and get em up

The suit above doesn't have cuffs like i thought.

Here is an update for you all.

The sharkskin suit is not for sale right now. Through research I have contacted the family who owned the store that this was from and I am holding onto it for the time being in order to write a piece about the family and hopefully find others. it is a very interesting story of how we found eachother.

I do, however have another suit...a nice black pinstripe with the dual vents, Sharonne, that i will be measuring tomorrow and will be selling. I believe my green/tealy metallic semi-sharkskin suit as the double vent as well, from the late 60s, so I will get measures of that as well.

thanks for all your help again guys

Awesome Patent! Keep me posted on the sizes etcetera :)
We justtttttttttttttt 100% cleaned out our closets so the fiancé is ON THE HUNT for new clothes!!

;)

I think the pinstripe measures 42" across the chest and the greenish tealish one is 44" but i will double check and do complete measurements on pants,etc...just have to finagle a bit to get a good picture of pants attached to the jackets :) I am listing a bunch of 60s sportcoats that are 44" tonight and tomorrow as well.
