Hi! So I have some questions about this dress/jacket combination. It looks like it's a 1920's style dress and jacket, but I'm not sure about that, mainly because of the fabric. I haven't seen too many dresses from that era with a sheer floral print, so I'm not sure if it's really that old!

The dress is a sheer floral print with a handkerchief hem. There's smocking at the drop-waist, and snap closures under the straps to keep your slip in place. The jacket is in a matching floral print and is made out of a smooth heavy fabric that makes noise when it moves (sorry, I don't know my fabrics very well!). It's an open style jacket with a decorative bow type thing on the back.

There are no tags at all, but I did find this outfit inside a I.Magnin box -- dated 1964.

Any insight?

Judging only by the photos, the dress looks right for the later half of the 1920s decade. The jacket is sort of boxy and not the right style for the 1920s, but hard to tell with it just on a hanger. Sheer silk chiffons (guessing that is what your dress is made of) were very popular in the 1920s, and the hanky hem as well. It could be 1930, which may explain the more boxy jacket.

Looks good to me for the late 20s. The jacket is a more unusual feature, usually you get matching chiffon jackets, but I like the variation of yours being in a taffeta. It looks expensive.
