Shipping to Indonesia

I hope it's ok to post this here... Hello do you all not ship to Indonesia as a general rule? I have gotten several obviously suspicious emails from people in Indonesia over the past few years wanting to buy and i have just said no. However I have a "customer" who really wants to buy some things and has been very persistant. She is getting her PayPal account "verified" etc. I just don't know if I should forget it or trust them. Any ideas? Any past experiences? Thanks!

The only orders I have had from Indonesia are scam orders. It's probably the minority ruining it for the majority but I hope your buyer is a good one! I didn't think though, that Paypal verified Indonesian accounts though due to the high levels of fraud there.

If she actually is verified and you are protected, maybe. Can you insure to Indonesia?

You might try one small item to start and see if it's a successful experience, rather than a bunch of inventory.

One criteria I use to weed out the problems is that I insist on insuring the item and that the insurance amount and the customs amount must match.

Although an international insurance claim takes forever.

It does sound risky.

If she really really want to buy something then she shouldn't have any trouble sending an international postal money order. If she does, cash it at the Post Office- they can tell if it is real. Better yet-tell her to western union the money. In 10 years I have never gotten a legitimate customer from Indonesia

as someone who lived in Indonesia for 2 years, i would say the postal service, at best, is HORRIFIC,

but if she has a VERIFIED Paypal account, or request a Western Union TRANSFER and she MUST MUST MUST pay for insuring/registering, and understand that you absolutely will not accept responsibility for her receiving the package, then i would certainly sell to her.

if she is uncomfortable with those stipulations, then unfortunately, i would not ship there. we recieved packages while there that had been rifled through, but at least they did arrive; well, we always PICKED THEM UP AT THE POST OFFICE, we did not have them delivered (and we lived at the Jakarta Hilton at that time).. there is just way too much theft there (not at the Hilton, but in Jakarta, overall).

A point about an Indonesian customer is that for the most part, people are very poor, or very rich there. and if they have enough money to buy online, then you may be developing a very loyal new customer.

Thank you everyone for your help. I have emailed her again telling her that unfortunately I can only accept a money order or western union and did not get a reply. It's a tough call as I certainly don't want to offend anyone but I also don't want to loose money. Thanks again.

Best,
Sarah

Makes you feel bad for the good, legitimate, and law abiding folk living there. Surely there are some; they wouldn't teach Fraud 101 in school, would they? Yikes.
