Hello, hope everyone's having a lovely weekend!

Just a quickie question. When did shoe manufacturers start using these modern labels on shoes?

Thanks

Sarah

I've never seen the one on the right before, but the hide outline for genuine leather shows up late 70s I believe. Someone here once quoted 1984 and I can't remember why now but I have since found shoes that I am quite sure predate 1984 that have the hide outline on the soles, usually with 'Vero Cuio' inside the outline or just underneath.

Sarah, I'd like to see what Jonathan has to say, but I think they're more recent, perhaps '90s or even '00s. That high heel mule style is reminiscent of the late '70s but the square toe and kind of faux stack heel looks more modern to me.

I think those mules are c. 2002-2005ish - the heel shape is a modern one in combination with that toe shape. Is Donatella a cheaper women's shoe line by Dontella Versace perhaps? Or maybe its just a company tha picked that name hoping consumers would think they were somehow associated with Versace.

Those "universal" tags on shoes and clothing are a 90's thing, possibly even late 90's or more recent. I've seen them on many cheap shoes in recent years. Jonathan is the final word on shoes around here, and I second that these are not 70's and are very modern.

....I bought them thinking they were modern, then wondered re the cowhide symbol....but modern is fine as I mainly sell vintage on Etsy and vintage fairs, but also sell some modern items under a different name on Ebay, so off it goes to Ebay probably in Spring when people start thinking of warmer weather.

Thanks Jonathan and everyone.

Those sticky labels with symbols for the composition of shoes are the bane of my life! They always leave a stubborn gummy residue, which is a real pain to remove!

I noticed that at the bottom of that label it says something like '?????? Retail Ltd ?????' - if you can see what that says it might help, perhaps?

Sarah

I know the sticky label is a new label but I just wondered what year they started to use them that's all, and same with the cowhide imprint. Curiosity really.

Yes, they are horrible and sticky, modern tasteless idea.

Hmmmm, TinTrunk and I are Uk based, but I'm sure there's an equivalent out there actually I think I've even used it but on household items.....thanks for reminder!

Oh yes!!!!

The shoes remind me very much of a pair my best friend bought a few years ago - I remember she had them when I visited her in Spring '06. These would be right up her street re. shape & height!
