Silk Industry in America

While doing research on a little silk 39 star flag I own, it lead me into a fascinating and eye opening fact: in the New England area, CT specifically, silk production was a major industry in the 19th century! If you are like me, you may have assumed that the fine silks all came from the oriental countries or Europe. Gee... I don't remember fine fabric production being a part of our American History classes! haha.

One major producer, The Cheney Brothers, had a major exhibit at the Centennial of 1876 in Philadelphia.

Because I'm so excited about all this new-found knowledge I wanted to share it here.
