I found this beautiful kimono and am hoping to glean a bit more about its origins. It has no labeling to speak of. It's a beautiful, relatively heavy silk.
First, a friend who is an antiques dealer guessed this to be from roughly the 1930s and of American origin, due to the muslin panel sewn into the shoulders. Also, the woman from whom I purchased it noted that the basting you can see in the closer picture would have been removed for washing, and then sewn in again to maintain the shape of the garment.
I'm wondering if anyone can confirm any this information, and I also have two more questions: what type of flower is depicted? And is there any helpful context for this piece? (Said antiques dealer friend cited the chinoiserie craze in the early 20th century, but given that this is a Japanese-inspired piece, does that jive?)
Thanks a million in advance for any insights!
