Silk satin - handwash?

I've done it again - possibly ruined another vintage item! :BAGUSE:- I was ironing a 30s satin bed jacket that I was sure was rayon - NOT! And I spritzed it in an area where it had ironed out ridges that remained thinking I'd get them out and lo and behold where I spritzed more or less shows as a stain now. Would hand washing be worth a try?

As always - THANKS!

you should be fine...older silk washes easier than new silk...but l just popped my new silk dressing gown no my peignor in the machine....its fine once ironed...but the little dark marks around the shoulders didnt come out...any ideas you guys??? I couldnt think what they were, but then realised form washing my hairs the wet drips....and then hanging on the door, not drying properly, so must be like damp mildewy..shucks...

Hand wash will work fine.

I had a beautiful 1920s wedding dress with mega train I had to wash twice for the same reason :BAGUSE:

Thanks!

Sara, I'm not too sure what to use for your newer silk piece. I've used naptha recently on a silk print when nothing else would work and it came out fine, but I'd wait for the more experienced to give their views.

Must have been scary at the time, Hollis, but it's music to my ears!
