Silk Velvet & Fur Jacket/Coat 1920s? Cocoon Coat?

Thank you for whatever information you can share with me on this coat/jacket.
~Feels like a silk velvet.
~Fur trimmed cuffs snap closed with ribbon detail extending from cuff.
~Velvet collar has a 1" pleated edge and fur trim.
~Coat has a loop and single button closure. Cross over is a bit extreme with button located on the side of coat by hem (tried to show this with the view of the lining).
~Lower half of coat has "ruching" or "cording" detailing (must be a more appropriate word to describe).
~Would this be considered a "cocoon" coat? and do you think it's from the '20s?
~Sorry about the photos. I depend a lot on natural lighting and it's very cloudy today here in Ohio.

It looks 20s to me...adorable. It's more of a jacket though than a coat...probably had a matching dress underneath at some point in time.
I don't think it is quite a cocoon style. It does appear to be silk velvet...the fur looks very soft, looks like rabbit but can't be sure.

Hi,

I agree with Mary Jane. It looks later 1920's, as that low hip wrap, with the extreme side closure, was very popular from 1925 onward for evening wraps and jackets. I also agree it would be called a jacket, not a coat, and that it probably had a matching skirt. It is not a cocoon. The fur looks like dyed rabbit to me also. It is very nice!

Thank you Barbara for the additional information (popular use of low hip wrap & extreme side closure) and confirming it's not cocoon. Good to know more about it!
