Sizing

Hello! I am new to the forum! I am passionate about vintage but I am still learning how to date some items. When did modern sizes date from in UK? Eg: 10, 12, 14, 16 et cetera. I thought that it was 70's or possibly 80's but I have some garments that look like they are from the 60's with modern sizes on them. Can you help?

I've seen UK dress sizes present in clothes since at least the 1950s, though the actual body sizes they refer to will have changed considerably since then.

In dress making patterns I've seen them earlier, since the 1930s, including the odd numbers like Size 13.

I haven't seen them in 1920s patterns, so perhaps they started in the 1920s to the 1930s.

I think it started when it became more common for clothing to be purchased ready to wear rather than made to order.
I have a ladies dickie front? I believe is from the 1930's with a size 14 at the neck.
