So Confused About This Dress!

Oh wow! Here's one for the books!

I have a dress in my shop that is exactly like a reproduction (edited out by Admin) dress. I mean EXACTLY. However, my dress has pinked seams, a union tag label from from 1955-1963, and a metal zipper. It also has very small measurements (32" bust x 23" waist) and I know most reproduction vintage lines accommodate for modern day sizing.

I've never seen a dress from this repro store (sentence edited by Admin) in person so I don't know if they have all these same details too. If so, I definitely want to update my shop listing for this dress and note it's a reproduction! My vintage dress does not have a maker tag. Just the Union tag.

It's just so bizarre that it's exactly the same dress! I first found out about this coincidence after reading a vintage blog: DELETED LINK BY ADMIN

The first photo is the dress in my shop. Last photo with all white background is from the company doing repros (sentence edited by Admin).

Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm so baffled!

Well repro companies do have to get their ideas somewhere!

If you are certain about the authenticity of your dress (and the union tag does seem to make that definitive), then presumably the repro company found another version of your dress, and used it for 'inspiration'. It looks to me like the ric-rac is slightly different on the repro dress, both the size of it, and the pattern it's been sewn into.

It's quite a coincidence though! It's like one of those spot the difference games.

Very sweet dress.

I know a few repro companies who buy original and copy exactly - they just change the name on it. It's only the fine differences in manufacturing that can tell.

Thanks gals! I was just so worried I was selling something as authentic vintage when it wasn't! I haven't seen the repro (edited by admin) dress in person, but even the fabric quality looks different!

This is happening with my shop right now too! I have a Lillie Rubin vintage daisy cut-out dress that I just took into inventory and when researching Laundry by Shelli Segal I happened upon the exact same dress!

The first image is the Rubin dress.

Even the fabric is the same.

What are your thoughts on this? Is someone messing with labels?
