So Rude!

I have to share this story with my fellow vintage clothing lovers. Tonight I went to dinner with my best friend and her daughters to celebrate a birthday. All decked out in our finest vintage dresses! There were about 12 in our group and we were definately enjoying ourselves. I suppose we were too loud for the couple seated behind us and as we were leaving he said we had ruined his meal. We apologized and were quickly walking away as he yelled out to us, "..and you all look ridiculous!":( I'm a big girl and I dress for myself and not to impress other people, but I felt so badly for the young girls we were with. Nothing like ignorance to crush any individuality in young, impressionable girls.

I agree with Mary Jane - he's a mean and unhappy person!

Chris is right too - take it as a compliment! The people who say these things are never dressed well, invariably very boring. I'd be tempted to turn to his dinner companion and say "I hope he's not usually this rude"

I'd like to hand out medals to all the people who dress fabulously, they brighten up everyone's lives. I just got back from an exhibition of menswear and can't help thinking that it's a pity that more men don't wear interesting clothes.

Wow, people are unbelievable. Ditto what everyone else has said. I know you all looked fabulous, he truly must be an unhappy person. If it were me I wouldn't have been able to stop staring! A little green with envy, for sure! :)

Ha ha. This reminds me of when i was 15 i went to a party in THE most fabulous 50s cotton dress (unfortunately now sold on to keep my vintage addiction going) and i got taunted by all of the boys at the party about my "stupid long skirt" and that i "looked like a grandma".

I remember after that i wore barely any proper vintage for nearly a year before i got the confidence to wear it again!

Funnily enough i still know most of the boys in question (it was only 6 years ago) and they still haven't changed...ah dear. Some people.

I echo everyone else's comments--what an unhappy, nasty person this fellow was. It must be sad being him. And fun being you and your friends! What a lousy place the world would be if it were homogenous.

That man should have simply asked to be seated elsewhere if the sound of laughter and people enjoying themselves was so intolerable to him. I wonder what his wife thought.... most women would have been embarrassed by his comments--unless, of course, she's as nasty as him.
