So Tell me about Tina Leser

I just found this dress locally. It's silk. Its labeled and well made. The skirt wraps to the side front and hooks to above the knee. It can be unhooked to be open to the waist.

I have been reading about Tina Leser, and I find a lot about sportswear. Is this an atypical piece from her, or are the fashion history writers simply zooming on one aspect of her clothing? And would this have been worn with pants underneath when unhooked? Shorts? I just don't remember this line.

I have been thing of this as the Secretariat Dress because it sure is similar to Peggy Chenery's racing silks.

In the 60' she tended to stay with trends. Her earlier work her dresses had an ethnic feel to it. She traveled and was inspired by her travels....
I dont htink the dress wa made with pant or shorts.

I think it is possible there were slacks. She did these "hostess" sets in the 50s, and then again in the late 60s into the 70s. I once had a 50s one - just the overdress, which was richly embroidered on silk. After I sold it, someone had the matching slacks on ebay. :duh2:

Leser is known for her sportswear vibe in the same way McCardell is. They both designed a wide range of clothing, but with a casualness that was, for the time, quite new. Leser tended to take luxurious fabrics and apply them to casual forms, such as slacks and sundresses. I have a pair of velvet slacks with a wide waistband of brocaded ribbon from the late 50s or early 60s.
