So What\'s with these Bloomers? (Lizzie?)

These are some bloomers... came with a bunch of garments from 1900 - @ 1925. They are ankle length and I was thinking maybe for wearing under a skirt when riding ... but then I guess they all rode side saddle then. The wide waist band is elasticized. No tags. Comments?

Oh Mary Alice!~ That made my cheeks hurt I was smiling so much. So I can market these as "Vintage Mc Hammer Can't Touch This Dance Pants"? Jody - They are cotton. Boy, that would be a lot of extra material dragging you down in the water.

Lei might have the best thought on these. My first thought is that they are strictly underwear, with that dropped crotch.

Women were just beginning to wear long blommers for gardening and house work in the late 1910s, but I've never seen a pair with that crotch.

Well, I take that "never seen" statement back. I do have this photo in my collection:

Yes, the ruched waistband is not a typical feature of earlier 'bloomers.' If the ruching is elasticated I would agree with Nicole as to a later date. Could be a theatrical or dance costume.

They ain't for riding thsat's for sure! When did smocking come into fashion? I've had late 30's- early 40's bathing suits made with this type of smocking. they may be part of a gym or sporting uniform from that era.

Turkish

I love those ! They do remind me of Turkish pants. They are like the lower half of a flying squirrel. Nice sleepwear if they had a flap seat in the back. I love unusual clothing. I found some on ebay by doing a search. Indian, actually. Green Genie Harem yoga Indian pants. Identical almost. I am in shock, and want some. :drinkingtoast:
