So when do YOU stop.....

I'm feelin' itchy wool syndrome already....

Just wondering, how far thru summer do you think it's reasonable to keep offering summer vintage stuff??

Would love to hear what others do to "change seasons"

Right now I'm doing clearance specials in my shop (online and B&M) to sell off the pieces I really don't want to store for 9 more months. Some summer goodies I have no problem storing - they = 1 or 2 years older! when they are offered in the future!

Am I too much of a packrat????

What do you guys do.....

Is the question only open for people who sell vintage clothes? Or is it for people who also wear vintage style clothes?

The heat doesn't bother me when I'm wearing my fedora, which is fur felt. My pants and shirts are tropical-weight cotton, and for fall-winter I wear heavier wieves.

By the way, I have to check your store out.

Well, i always keep some off season things on hand if they are really nice because you never know who is looking. there is some things that if i like it and it fits, i buy all year for myself/or to sell. If something was the hot trend this year though and not really a "classic/pereniall" thing i might be tempted to clearance it though.

I would save any hawaiian sarongs and halters and bring them out after Xmas for VLV though

People who wear is helpful too, because that dictates when the bulk of people are looking to buy any given item.

I have been known to buy gabardine in July for myself. I can't really wear them til late November really, but i buy all year.

I get frustrated though now living in a warmer climate (lived in Detroit, Wisconsin, and New England, and now live in the south) that in OCtober when it is warm, i can't find anything that is climate aprorpriate. Everyone is selling fur.

Wow... wool skirts? Really?

Who ARE these people that buy wardrobes for seasons 2 months away?

I will never be that organized!

I am, however, a total oportunist when it comes to shopping. I'll buy winter items in spring if everything else is right for me (size, price, style, etc)... but I generally don't seek them out until the weather actually starts changing. Heck.. I'm still looking for a good swimsuit! :hysterical:

LOVE fall, by the way! I can't wait! Of course... I'll be horrendeously underdressed since I won't think to buy sweaters until October!! :horny:

I have to prepare my men's cashmere stuff, etc, and get it into my shop pretty soon. well, right now, actually. Otherwise i will be saying this in February. (as usual). was going to save for closer to the holidays, but i best hurry!

As a buyer, I've noticed that the sale of cashmeres on eBay has begun to pick up (or maybe it's just that everyone wants the same ones I want:( ) But when I looked at heavier items, like Dale of Norway sweaters, it definitely is too early to put them on eBay.

I'm still putting summery things in my on-line shop, but part of that is that I'm terribly behind in getting things put in there. On the other hand, the woman who owns the vintage store where I consign things called today wanting coats. So it's getting there.

Although I start concentrating on selling cooler weather clothing on ebay in August, I do offer seasonal clothing all year round both there and in my online store. I sell a lot internationally, and figure it's always a lot cooler or warmer somewhere else in the world. In the eight or so years I've been selling online, I've sold plenty of sweaters in June and sundresses in December!

And now I have to check out The Fedora Chronicles . . .

Glad this topic came up, as I still have some nice summer things that I just haven't had time to list, and was wondering if I should bother now, or wait till next year. I guess the nicer things I may hold or just put them up at a "regular" price & see what happens. The more ordinary ones I think I'll put up at clearance pricing and if they don't sell, keep 'em till next spring.... I have a ton of winter coats & was going to wait another week or two to start listing, but from what you all have said, I guess I'd better get busy now! But just thinking about working with wool & fur coats in this 90-degree heat is SO off-putting....

I hope you like it... I'm trying to do a middle of the road - embrace both sides and cover for news for people with the vintage perspective and also host pages full of readers adventures while wearing vintage styles.

I'll also be hosting fiction and art soon.

I'm open to any suggestions. I regard the whole Retro Comunity as my friends and family and this is my way to contribute and keep it alive as much as I can. I wish I could do more!

Now more about Summer and Vintage Styles...

Summer is the worst time of the year for me and Retro-Style with the heat. When fall comes, I can wear layers and look my best.

Do you switch it up to include vintage Hawaiian shirts, etc, in the summer, or do you prefer to go with the suited look...just in lighter fabrics...all year?

I am still not seeing the bow tie thing that was mentioned...but i will still keep lookin' ...I like your WWII features being an afficianado myself.

Holy cats though...the more i read your site the more i wonder if you really are a twin seperated at birth from my cousin or brother...Indiana Jones hat links, and just about everything else. I'll send my brother the site if he is even on the net anymore these days. I don't think he even checks his email anymore.

Oh and on the winter thing.....i have FORCED myself to get with the program.

Hmmm......
I think I will keep all seasons on my site since I am just to lazy to try to take the things off of the website and then try to add more things that are for winter only. Like the setting of the sun and moon, it must be winter somewhere on the other side of the world, and summer when it's winter here in the US. :snowman:

I read this spring , I think during Memorial weekend, that everyone was wearing those long skirts that reached the ground and cashmere sweaters!
