Some interesting Jewelry - and some ??s

I found some fun stuff last Friday. Many of you may recognize this kind of jewelry, but other than knowing it was neat and sensing it was older, I was clueless. On the back it says “made in Brazil” and so by googling I was able to learn the iridescent background is from butterfly wings and the decoration is reverse painting. Because of the tropical scenes, these were probably tourist pieces. It has its original clasp, which is basically just a -push it in there - affair. Any idea on the age?

And this is a nice linked bracelet and necklace - has some tarnish issues. 50’s?

This last necklace has a deco feel to it and I would love to say it is bakelite and glass, but I sure can’t smell formaldehyde and I don’t have any of the cleaners they recommend for trying. I love the way the pieces fit together like blocks. Date possibilities?

I just sold 2 pins last week that had that iridescent shine on the background. I wish I knew that was from butterfly wings then!

This pin which is similiar to your set was in a dated box of 1944. I don't know if that is the exact date--since the actual piece isn't dated.

I agree with 40s on the brass set.

No idea on the black/clear necklace, which is wonderful (I use formula 409 to test bakelite--unlike simichrome, which you have to locate in just the right auto detail or hardware store, you can get it in your corner grocery store...)

The butterfly wing set is lovely! So much detail--I bet this will get snapped up. What do the backs of the earrings look like? That may better help pin down date (clips don't show up much until the 50s). I've seen that clasp on inexpensive 50s bracelets...

Yes brass on the middle set. If you look at that iridescent jewelry with a magnifying glass you can see the wings easily. Pretty neat. I was hoping the clasp would mean they were earlier... although if clips are 50's .. so be it! I have a better picture of that set too.

Clips aren't always 50s! They were actually patented in the mid-30s, and they were used on some 40s earrings (especially later 40s) but they don't really show up constantly till the 50s.

though my hunch is your set is 50s, I could be totally wrong--both the style clasp and of clip mechanism in it have showed up in 50s jewelry that I've had...
