Hello all! Just recently jointed this lovely forum in need of assistance. I recently purchased this mint condition green & gold (possibly handmade) dress at a thrift store in Pacific Grove, CA, and I am stumped on trying to identify the origin of this dress! I'd love to sell it on my closet shop, but prior to that, I'll need some sort of description!
Some have already told me it may originate from African & Armenian
traditional fashion, and some have said it was from the 20's-40's but I am still clueless, curious, & questionable.
  • There are no tags
  • No sign of tags that have been cut-off
  • No markings whatsoever
I appreciate any help, thank you so much for your time!

Can you possibly attach the photos separately as they appear very small in a montage like that.
Do you know what the material or fibre is? If not are there any loose threads you can take to do a burn test on?

Sure thing, I will upload seprate photos. And no, there are no loose threads. What does a burn test signify?

In the first photo it appears to be a knit or jersey fabric. From that and the type of braid (known as russian braid) I'd be inclined to say this was 1970s or later.

Can you get a close up of the braid? - is the metallic portion a flat metal, or a softer finely woven material like lurex tape or twisted metallic threads?

It seems more like twisted metallic thread & lurex tape.. ahh I am not 100% sure, but Lurex tape seems the closest.
