Hi,
As Barbara (Rue de la Paix) can attest, I've been on the hunt for more costumes -- this time Civil War era.
One thing I've noticed is that many reproduction milliners claim a lack of access to wide silk ribbon.
Here is a potential source:
http://www.custompaper.com/Shop/Ribbon/ribbon.html
I called, and spoke with the owner, Kevin, who gave me the run-down on what's available. So here goes:
He imports the 100% silk ribbon in its undyed, creamy white (so right there, perfect for period costumes as it's not bright white) state. He then hand dyes it. Bottom line:
He's got 2.5" wide single-face satin, 12 wt, in 80 solid colors and more than 90 ombre/variegated colors. 3 yard minimum. $4/yd.
Don't know if the edge of the ribbon is the right sort, or the weight is heavy enough, but it's definitely real silk.
