I can't help with dating this particular bracelet as I have no expertise on how long these were made. On my first trip to Europe in the mid 1980s, starting in Rome and traveling from Italy to France and then Germany, I started collecting souvenir bracelets in every place I went. They had them in those little pop up tourist stands and small shops near all the famous attractions. I loved them! I collected many as they were inexpensive and they are wonderful and look older than the dates I bought them. All of them are just cheap pot metal and some aluminum alloy I am sure and do have the little spring ring fastener as yours does. Is yours light weight? It could be aluminum or some alloy. Not much help to date your particular bracelet but it may help to know that they were available and popular in the mid to late 80s. For all I know they still sell them!
it looks 50s to me and from what i can remember in the 50s it was the fashion to have a medallion or coin hanging off this style of bracelet. i know my mum had one and looking through some 50s knitting patterns (always use patterns for my research) i have seen several, all 50s
Lorraine, That's exactly what I remember. The 1956 Winter Sears catalog shows bracelets like that in their jewelry section.
Maybe Julia could either put in a photo of one of hers, or tell us if the end charm is hanging down from any of them. Julia, what do you think?
well yes thats about right, i was born in 57 and one of the first things i remember is seeing it swing on her bracelet. i've got it somewhere but no idea which box its in.
Hi Guys, just a quick note as I need to run....I think mine do have medallions hanging. Maybe I can get some photos for you later. One other thing, yours has larger linked pieces than mine I think.
This is my first post so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I'll introduce myself in the proper thread in just a moment, but I actually have something to contribute so I wanted to respond here first.
I have this exact bracelet. My mother picked it up for me while visiting Italy in the mid 80s.
Mine is in pretty rough shape. One of the links is upside down (I must have tried to repair it at some time), the dangling pendant has become dethatched and back is pretty rusty. I think mine is heavier that what you describe, it certainly feels heavier than aluminum. I'll attach a picture if I can figure out how.
