Steam or Iron taffeta and chiffon?

Just out of interest what would you suggest as being the best way to getting creases etc out of a 1950's taffeta dress and chiffon dresses/shirts?
I normally steam everything.

I iron taffeta inside out over a damp handkerchief at the hottest temperature it can stand (you have to test this on seam, as it can vary) as it needs to be pretty damp to work, typically I so the same for chiffon but it's so easy to iron creases back in, I suspect steaming is easier for the light weight fabrics - I wouldn't know I haven't used a steamer.

Thank you Melanie, I am terrible at ironing hence why I have a steamer, but I will try your way
