Hi everyone,
Yes, me again.
This coat comes from Stern and Mann of Canton Ohio. They opened in the late 1800s and I believe they closed in 2004. They were a higher end department, who prided themselves in using the best fabrics and materials. At the time when they opened, Canton was thriving in the watch or clock making business and from what I read, many of the top watch makers moved to Canton from major cities and the department store was opened to meet the demand of their wives who were acustomed too finer things.
Again, another sort of timeless design, I am just not sure of the time period.
The coat is red velvet, it is actually a much deeper red than appears in the photos (fixing that now) with a hood, 3 quarter sleeves and red satin lining. My mother had a Stern and Mann gown in which I dressed up when I was little and it was from the 50s and I believe the label looked just like this one, but that was a long time ago *smile*.
It has an ALGWU label of which I do not yet have a photo but the Stern and Mann label is attached below.
Just curious about possible time period and perhaps name of coat style. Couldnt find diddly on it.
Sorry I am posting so much, but I finally found time to start digging my fall and winter stuff out and trying to get it all sorted as quickly as possible.
As always, I sincerely appreciate the help and I am now photographing all labels and saving the info into a database for future reference.
