Storing and shipping vintage hats?

What rule of thumb do you use when shipping hats. Do you wrap them in tissue or place them protective plastic?

Secondly, what is the best way to store them?

I am getting ready to ship a hat and just want to make sure that it is well protected.
Thanks!!!

I still have a variety of hats even though I rarely wear them. One of the things I learned in hatmaking was to make "stands" from 1 qt. plastic bottles like chlorox or starch (remember starch). Cut the bottle off so it will be tall enough so the brim won't rest on the shelf.

Place a little tissue in the crown of the hat. Turn the bottle upside down and use as a hat stand.

I always use plastic after I wrap it in tissue paper. I do not seal the plastic but leave it loose in case of moisture getting inside. Then I wrap or line the box with white paper for further protection.

Thank you ladies!!! I have few delicate hats, and I just want to make sure they are preserved properly and ship safely as well. I appreciate your feedback.
