Straw Hat Help Please...

I purchased this hat from an estate sale where only two women had lived in the house (saved all their clothing). The clothing ranged from the 1930s to the early 1960s. Can anyone help me date this hat and the type of straw? One of the older ladies at the sale referred to it as panama straw. Is there such a thing?
THANKS!

That slightly domed shape looks like early-to-mid 1950's to me, especially with that lucite decoration--reminds me of a 50's link-type bracelet, without the other links.

I found a 1956 newspaper photo with a caption that said: "HAT AND BAG SET, a Sunnycrest Original by Lazarus of Paris was modelled by Mrs. Edward Rucker." The digitized photo is so dark that it is almost impossible to see what Mrs. Rucker was wearing on her head, but it was clearly a rather small hat.
