I'm not sure what I've got. I've been researching 60s-80s suits via several museum collections to no avail. I'd love some dating & fabric identification.

It's missing its maker label, but the
pieces are precisely-matched so I consider it high end. Double-breasted blazer with wide princess seam shaping. The gold buttons have a small script "g".

The pants are darted & shaped straight as an arrow, have a front zipper and are 20" wide at the hem.

The fabric is as heavy as tapestry and is backed with cheesecloth. The fabric is so thick that the suit almost holds its tubular shape. A version of herringbone?

What can you tell me about this suit? Any help is much appreciated!! Here's the pics...

This looks very "mod" to me; at first glance I thought maybe early 70s, but the more I look at it, the more I think it is back into the 60s. It looks like wool, but it could very well be a wool blend, or an acrylic or acrylic/wool blend. Can we see the backing fabric? Being from Saks, it would have been a good quality, but I can't make a guess as to designer, and I don't know who all was private labeling stuff for them.

Oh good, glad the consensus is 60's -- that was my gut feeling before I started the second guessing. Nice to know I wasn't off tho' I'm not a suit & pants girls.

BV- I would have loved to have seen you in your plaid pantssuit!!

Does anyone know what I can call this fabric?
Here's a pic of the back of the fabric, Ann...

Ann, I agree that the lining is cotton, but cheesecloth is flimsier - I think yours is standard cotton lining, but I'm not sure if it has a specific name. You're right about the herringbone too. Great late '60s suit.
