Suits you sir!

I've been looking through some of my fashion magazines from the late 1960's and came across this lovely feature from 'Fashion' dated November 1968. It's called 'Young Outlook' and I thought you'd like to take a look. Written by Susan Harwood, she gives fashion advice to their younger readers. She says:

It's difficult to realise the transition of trousers from "down the high street, jumper pulled well over the bottom" look, to the essential fashion element they are today. The advent of the trouser suit establishes a practical, un-sloppy way of wearing them - and now by night they're as ubiquitous as the little black dress. Black trousers, with a matching top can have endless permutations when used with shirts and sweaters, belts and bits. Here are five trousers and tops for casual evenings which look absolutely stunning.

Above left: Long black waistcoat and trousers in moire satin by Janice Wainwright for Simon Massey. Wear with a floppy shirt in beige or white. Above right: For the sleek hipped - a velvet two-some. Wear it with frilly or simple shirts: most things look good with black velvet.

Above left: Knitted look in Lurex and pastel shades for this wrap-over top and trousers by Alice Pollock at Quorum. Centre: Expensive uncluttered look in black uncrushable grosgrain. Pure and simple with a polo neck and black patent belt by Stephen Lynn at Susan Barry. Above right: A one piece I couldn't resist. By Jinty in rayon cloque this comes in black, white and red, amongst other colours.

I love Susan's no-nonsense fashion advice and the illustrations are really cool too. I'm completely in love with 1960's fashion. It's quite possibly my favourite decade.

I don't actually have trousers in my own vintage collection but wonder if you have any from this decade? A lovely trouser suit perhaps? A 'space age' ensemble? If you do have anything in your collection, please show. I'd love to see! :headbang:

I love that look! If you hadn't mentioned the year, I would have thought it was very early 1970's, but I guess it took a few years for the styles to trickle down to the suburbs in the U.S.

Thanks for posting such a great article, Louise! :clapping:

Those illustrations, with the doe-eyed ladies, are fantastic, and SO 'of their time.'

Wearing low-heeled courts (pumps) with trousers was a very cool look I might try working into my own wardrobe! :)
