Superheroes

I went to the press preview for Superheroes yesterday at the Met. It is really interesting but not my favorite topic. That said the backdrops, design, etc. are truly breath taking. Many of the designs are sportswear, movie costumes and even haute couture. There were some extraordinary beaded designs.

Armani was on hand yesterday to say a few words in It. with an interpreter. He was quite modest and said that he thought the curators had to look a long time to find something from his work to fit-in. It is a magnificent beaded "spider woman" dress. There'a another Armani but I like the beaded design better.

Yes, if you live anywhere near or plan to be in NY--it's amazing.

Today I looked at the Mme. Gres designs in the Nan Kempner Collection. This was an interesting exercise. The techniques are very simple so there was a lot beautiful hand overcasting. Some of the designs were amazing and difficult to figure out how they would be worn. I wish I could go home and just drape for a week to sort them out.

I grew up At the MET Costume Museum... Thanks to Mom....

What is the book where the children run away from home and live at the MET for awhile?

Saw previews of the exhibition that was in my Vogue. My husband who is a comic fanatic was not impressed I think he only like Gaultier.... A hard subject to find items that fit theme.

I would love to see the Mme. Gres designs...there seems to be a bit of a Mme Gres moment right now; I noticed her profile in the spring NY Times fashion supplement. Could draping be "in" again? One can only hope.

I saw the Mme. Gres show at FIT some years ago. It was sublime. I just stood and stared at those draped chiffons.
