I purchased this at a antique faire and the lady told me it was from the 20s. But I am not sure if that is true or not. She also told me that she purchased it at a antique store in the 70s and wore it back in high school. It is marked Sterling Button co. NY. I am guessing 40s-60s when sweater guards were popular.

thank you - they're similar to '30s dress clips and certainly look older than '50s, quite a bit older. I haven't seen sweater guards from the '20s but you never know.

Hello,

That is gorgeous! I cannot help much on the dating, but it looks rather like 1930s or 1940s to me. Also, the chain is rather heavy looking, as is the entire piece, which leads me to think this was intended for use on an evening cape or cloak. I can see this used on a black crepe or velvet cape, over an evening gown or dress. Possibly it was part of a set. I love love love it.

Thank you. I never seen anything quite like it.

Victorian chatelaines are neat, would love to stumble upon one of those.
