Sweet crepe and silk blouse - thoughts on dating?

Yesterday I finally had time again for a visit to my local Caritas shop - and to visit their new one in another part of the city, which I hadn't been to yet. I have been quite successful - finding both a few vintage and some newer secondhand things at good prices.

My sweetest find is this cute blouse, the dating of which throws me a bit - I would love to hear your thoughts in this respect. At first glance I though it was vintage, maybe also due to the materials used, but then again I thought maybe it's newer and just styled in a retro way.

The black fabric is crepe, the blush-colored one seems to be silk, and a relatively heavy, beautiful one at that. As for the label, my search on Google France turned up - zero. The writing on the right side of the label, which is obscured by the thread used to sew it on simply says "Made in France". All seam edges are finished in that overlock stitch. The buttons at the cuffs close with small, hand-made thread loops.

It is quite small, which was probably my luck, or it would have been gone already, what with the price it had. There are no darts, the side seams however have are not straight but show a bit of shaping to the waist. The buttonholes are machine-sewn. The sleeves have a bit of a puff on the shoulders, but the fabric wasn't gathered, but laid into several folds.

I think there was/is a cafe in paris by this name...somehow connected to molyneux. I just read this somewhere. I have to go back and find the article. This could be where they got the idea for the label. I can't help with date but it is gorgeous. I love the colors.

Thanks you all. I admit 70s was not a decade I'd been thinking of first - but I'm learning :saint:. I think it will come out even more beautiful once I've had it dry cleaned. I was only amazed yesterday how dirty the water was just from washing a scarf that had looked quite alright. Especially the cuffs of the blouse, when compared to the other silk parts seem a little dirty - but you have to look closely.

It's a very lovely blouse, Karen! And I am in the minority here, but it looks 80s to me. If it's 70s, I'm thinking later rather than earlier. The interior construction as you show it looks 80s to me. I see a sort of stylized "western" type look here, maybe an "Urban Cowboy" inspired thing, which would put it ca. 1980.

I could be all wrong, of course, but the 70s is when I was "into" fashion quite a bit and doing a lot of my own sewing, and I just don't remember this look from early in the decade. Western inspired, yes, but not the satin and more stylized design. Being that I lived in small towns and cities back then, this may have been a "bit-city" trend that didn't hit my neck of the woods till late 70s/early 80s.

i really like it, and my first thought was western-inspired as well. but i also can see 30s/40s revival of the late 60s and early 70s - (that peach satin, puffed sleeves). the font on the label doesn't look late 60s though.

what do the buttons look like, and what are they made of?

Karin -

See if the buttons are cold are warm. If they are cold they are glass. You can touch the button to your lips and should be able to tell if they are warm or cold.
