Tabak of California Suit Date??? Thanks

Hello to everyone,

I found this Tabak of California at the thrift store. Skirt hem was shorted by 2" it was originally 1" hem plus hemming ribbon.

The jacket, to me, appears well constructed with 3/4 sleeves that taper to cuff from shoulder. I think sleeves are called doleman.
Front princess seams end in a "Y" at the bust. Jacket is lined and buttons are a lovely deep caramel color. Wide at the shoulders but no shoulder pads.

I'm not even going to try to guess the date on this one.

Thank you once again for your help.

Alice

Pretty sure this is 50s. It is a raglan sleeve. I have a huge (hundreds) collection of Tabak of California pieces that came from the estate of the company's head designer, Irene Saltern. This is likely one of her designs. As you note, the quality is excellent; I have found both the fabrics Irene used and the construction of Tabak's pieces to be top notch.

There should be a Union label in this, and it's likely to be the pre-1963 one. Would you kindly e-mail me at [email protected]? I can give you some history on the company and the designer. And may be interested in purchasing this if you are going to be selling it....

Hi Anne,

I would love additional information!!!
You should now have an email from me.
Sorry, but I could not find a Union label.

Bests,
Alice
