So I posted this dress earlier when I was just asking for help on the fabric, but now I realize I am multiply confused about it!
It's very simple, with bust darts and a side metal zip, and initially I thought it was 40s, but now I'm thinking 50s.... but really I don't know!
The fabric is very pretty, this butterfly print with a more opaque white floral effect in the background. I washed this dress in cold water (it's not in great condition and it was dirty, so I just did it) and the fabric felt very strong, and when it was wet, the white background (not the more opaque floral design) became almost transparent. It's rather slick-feeling and cool. Initially I thought it was a rayon blend, or a synthetic, and then I began to think it was silk.
I did several burn tests and am still confused. It burns but not too readily; at first I thought it smelled like hair and was silk; but then I thought it smelled sort of sweet. The ash left was very small and hard, but it did seem to break down into powder under my thumb nail. I'm all kinds of perplexed. Any ideas? Thanks!
