Here i am again somehow always with mysterious things with no history of labels found anywhere on the internet.

Found a leather vest with a tandy tag.

I assume its date is 60 to 70s.

If anyone has an opinion on date and style id love to hear it

So all i can find is tandy leather company kits and patterns. Was tandy just and still is company you can buy leather from and make items??
This tag has a size and says India. So it leaves me confused as to if it was manufactured in a factory or shop? I first thought maybe someone just made it themselves but the tag. I cant find a cross reference clothing leather items

Any information on this companys earlier years would be great.

It started in 1913 i believe

Thank you! I can only find information on their stores that provide kits and patterns. Also alot of patterns from the seventies. But nothing on things that werre pre-made and sold for retail. Im just wondering if this vest could be older....but maybe bc it was made over seas in India it would be from the 70s or 80s

I am still buried under a million boxes that need to be unpacked after our move, so I was not able to spend too much time on your interesting inquiry, but I found a bit of information I hope will help:

— From a 1919 article titled “Charters Granted”: “Hinckley-Tandy Leather Company of Fort Worth, capital stock $25,000. Incorporators: W.N. Hinckley, Walter Hinckley, and Dave L. Tandy.

— From a 1953 newspaper article: “Tandy Leather Company of Fort Worth has purchased the Burgess Handicrafts store in Chicago, it was announced yesterday…The Chicago store…becomes the thirtieth store in the Texas company’s chain.

— From a 2007 business report: “If you look back at the history of Tandy, in about the 1980s that’s what really spelled a lot of their demise. They went into selling finished goods and other garments and different things in leather, which drove away their traditional business and that was one of their problems. I think leather craft is popular…” Because of that comment and a similar reference in another article, it seems their leather clothing (the “finished goods”) were sold for only a brief period in the 1980s.

Another article referenced Tandy’s start in 1919 (as was mentioned in my first citation here) and additional comments in the 2007 business report mentioned the move of company headquarters and how hard they were working to not allow that move to interfere with Tandy’s operations, so the 1980s problem with offering finished leather goods obviously did not wipe out the company.

Wow thanks alot for taking the time. I appreciate it! I only found what was on wiki. I sent a photo to tandys instagram praying id get a response ..... and they appreciated it and said it may be 70s apparel.

I saw no 1970s ads for finished Tandy items and the first ad I found for finished items was from 1982. [NOTE: This ad is posted here for educational purposes only. Do not repost it anywhere else. Thank you!]

Note the text on top that says they have been leather specialists since 1919 and at the bottom right they mention vests among their finished leather goods.
