Tatum O'Neal's hat

This is a hat Joanna Moore gave me in the mid-70s when I was chairman of a celebrity auction.

She said Tatum had worn the hat in the Bad News Bears; I didn't find it there. Joann said Tatum wore the hat quite a lot after the movie was finished and as you can see, it is in very bad condition. The ribbon is simply pinned on. there is no label.

Joann and I grew up in Americus, GA. She took piano lessons from my mother and left Americus after graduating from high school. She moved to CA, married Moore, and changed her name to Joanna.

Do you have any thoughts about which movie Tatum might have worn it in?

No, I don't and Joan died about 20 years ago.

While I have not seen the movie, my movie trivie King pal tells me that in the very beginning of the movie, Tatum is seen sunning herself in her yard (or?) and she is wearing a similar hat. He is not sure if that is the exact one and he no longer has the movie in his collection.

Great photo of Tatum. No, the hat Claire has is made of a woven straw, like a Panama or Buntal straw hat. The one in your photo is a straw braid, very different. But she sure looks cute!

But now I wonder if that photo is from Bad News Bears? Gonna have to find that movie again.

I somehow did not know her mom had passed on so long ago.

Here's a clip from the scene. The hat in the film is painted with a landscape on the top side. Perhaps she wore it another film like you suggested.

Carla, thanks for the movie post. The hat in the movie is braided, and as Barbara said, the one I have is woven.

Joann died in 1997. We had mutual friends but she was a few years older than I so we weren't really friends growing up. I can't think of anyone who was as attractive as she was as a teenager.
