I think the fur is fox and the date is 60s. I love the way the collar can work in so many ways. So, how would you describe the fabric?

yes, i was going to say mohair also, and since i have been doing so much investigationg on furs lately, I can agree with your guess at fox!
 
Maam...you appear to have a large cat about your head.

I love these fur collar old coats, but when I wear mine, I tend to spend the day going *pffftt*.
