Wow - An 1807 needlework sampler sold Sunday at Sothebys for $1,070,500 - more than ten times its high estimate of $120,000. The sale contained 198 lots from the collection of the needlework historian Betty Ring.

That is incredibly beautiful--so much detail! All the animals look so perfectly civilized, and I love the way the trees get smaller in the second "tier" of the landscape to suggest distance...

I would think that fabulous frame and calligraphy work at top with date, etc. added to the overall charm of the piece.
