thank you VFG for label info

Thank you, VFG for having such an extensive label and union tag archive of information. I was able to definitively prove that a dress I bought that was represented as a Ceil Chapman was indeed not a Ceil Chapman, thanks to the clues presented by the label resource and the union tag dating.
Too bad Ebay won't accept any of those things as proof, but that's a story for another day. We appreciate all of the documentation, VFG!

Hi Pocahauntis, great that the VFG is able to help.

I find that Ceil Chapman can be a problematic label because it seems that there are indeed unethical people out there who are either copying the label and putting in other non-Ceil garments, or moving Ceil labels from something to something else.

It's a downside of the perceived value of the label - and also happens to other designers like Dior etc. That's why it can be really helpful to be able to identify a label is right for a piece or is in the wrong place, or sewn in incorrectly. Sometimes labels are removed or fall out, and resewn into the correct garment though, so it helps to look at everything that is going on (fabric, construction, style etc).
