had a nice quiet day yesterday being 27:)

my favourite present? pitmans 'window dressing' pub. 1924.

it has some real insights into the 'principles of display', so i'll try and scan some of their good/bad examples later on.

some of the displays are fantastic - it does hark back to a time when not just the big shops tried to impress!

Happy bday Harriet!

And as my auntr would say "you spring chicken!"

Enjoy it while you can....I will be yet another year older than you when my birthday comes around :( You would think I was 97 the way I talk!

thanks guys. i got some 40s mags and a necklace, and a weaving loom too :D

and had fish and chips for tea, followed by pancakes! lol. not exactly nouvelle cuisine but kept me happy anyway.

Liz - I didn't know we had that in common :)

so anyway, enough self indulgent me talk - the window dressing book!! i finished reading it this afternoon and it's just really fun....

"A certain draper in a large provincial town had for very many years alays changed the neckwear window on Mondays, and it was not until recently that, on account of his window dresser being called away, he had occasion to leave his display in over Monday.
He then discovered that he sold more better-class neckwear on that particular Monday than of any other day of the display. Monday is now the best day for neckwear, and the window display is never changed that day."

so know i now when to sell my cravats!
