It also amused me because we did the opposite when I was at school, we wore the sensible shoes to walk to school in, and put the more fashionable ones on when we were there!

I remember hearing about this in the 60s. My Mom mentioned it because the spike heels would leave dents in the linoleum floors. And some hardwood floors.

When I was a child forget the age I can remember my Mum taking me across a dance floor and explaining what a sprung floor was and pointing out the dents in it done by the metal heels tips , I have to say those facts sort of when in one ear and out of the other because at that age I had not worn any stiletto's and no idea if they would be metal or not back then either. the floor must have looked bad.
