The Best Reason to Wear Vintage!

I went to my husband's christmas party for work last night. It was a semiformal. The men were in dark suits and the women were in cocktail dresses.

I went into the bathroom and there were two other women there. A third walked in and there was an uncomfortable moment as the newcomer discovered that one of the ladies was wearing the identical dress that she was! Then one of them said "My dress looks great on you!". There was actually one more lady wearing the identical dress too. And it wasn't two manufacturers knocking off one another....they were absolutely the same.

Luckily they had a sense of humor. But I certainly had no "twin" there!
 
I am going to my husbands Christmas party tonight.... I am wearing a blue and silver greek godess gown from the 60's (tough one, it was floor length and my wonderful mom shortened it to tea length... when your short, your short....) AND I have a 50' s beaded cardigan to keep me warm!

Makes a great advertisement!!!!
 
I bet no one will be in the same dress!

And i also like mixing eras with pieces united by colors, fabric weight, and "line".

I'd like to wear more vintage to things but can never find anything to fit me :( Ironically, it's the Victorian and Edwardian stuff that I always end up finding in my size and for my height but you can't really wear 1860's walking outfit with a cage crinoline to a modern 'do! :P
I lust after a 50's cocktail dress but all that I ever find are WAY too small. Then when I find vintage things (like 40's and 50's gowns) that do have a 44" bust and 34" waist, they are too short proportioned for my height! It's very frustrating.

This is what I wore to my party last night..... I hung sooo well on me, I have never has a dress look this good!! I combined it with a huge weiss rhinestone brooch right in the middle of the bodice! So many inquired about my dress.... it felt great!

What a gorgeous dress. Chris that is too funny (and too sad!) about those women with the same dress. So right about wearing vintage.

Lei, I'm the same measurements as you. I am diligently working away on Atkins induction so that I too will someday fit into some 50's or 60's vintage.

How about flapper style dresses? Not that I've ever had one, but the long straight lines look a little more easy to fit than 50's New Look.

Naw, unstructrued dresses hang off my boobs and make me look fat :P That's why I like things that are structured as they show that I'm really not that big! LOL!

unstructured dresses do the same thing on me, Lei, I just have to have things that are little more nipped in at the waist.

44 bust stuff IS out there in a taller proportion...just not as readily as the smaller stuff.

But what about making stuff or having stuff made form vintage patterns where the waist can be elongated, or the skirt can be lengthened?
