So here it is - after years of resistance, I joined the designer madness at H&M
After the lingerie- and homewear collection of last November/December, H&M has done another Sonia Rykiel collection, this time with daywear.
I admit, lately the whole designer-for-H&M thing was a bit too much of a hype in my eyes and I've refused to participate in it. I got one of their Viktor & Rolf-silk dresses weeks after the collection came out, a few years ago, and that was it.
And the whole hype around the Jimmy Choo collection almost gave me the last straw. I wasn't a great fan of the Rykiel underwear either at first - until I looked closer at some of those things in the January sales (I don't think this collection did overly well, there was loads of stuff still to be had) - and was hooked . In short, I almost all of the retro-styled pieces - in both color schemes. ;).
So now I was interested when the first ads for the new Rykiel collection came up... in short, I got up early this morning to catch the bus to the mall in time for it's opening, so I could get my hands on all the stuff I'd liked on the webpage already :D . It's probably the best-known shopping mall in Switzerland, and it's only a ten-minute bus ride from where I live (only it took me a year to find that out, after I'd moved here!). I figured it might be more relaxed there than downtown. I didn't know how popular this would be, there had been no newspaper articles or a hype per se, but the ads have been everywhere the last two weeks. Do the H&M-teenies of today even know who Sonia Rykiel is?
Well, it wasn't that bad. There were a lot of people, but stock was plentiful and the staff kept refilling the rails at an amazing speed, so I got all that I had wanted! Four tops, the knit dress with the rhinestones and the tote bag. Crazy, I know! But I think this is their best guest designer collection ever . There's such a sense of fun about it (those "Mon Pull Rykiel" shirts!), it's colorful (all the pieces literally mix & match!), very wearable, the sizes are "normal" and a nice fit, it's all cotton or wool, no synthetics... it was also interesting to see that the women buying these clothes literally were of all ages, from teenagers to women who could have been their grandmas.
For me, they could do a Rykiel collection ever year, and I'll gladly join the designer madness :D.
