The dress that never sells - help!

Hi,

OK, for whatever reason, this dress appealed to me on the hanger. On the mannequin, it's a whole different story. Can anyone give me some feedback on it? Should I just donate it? Also, what year/style?
Thanks

(ps, she's got all the markings of something older, metal zipper/pinked seams etc)

You might want to try this closer to spring. I don't know when you tried to sell it before, but you might want to wait til after march 1st, but that is just me.

First off, I think it might be important to note the height of your mannequin. If she is a tall girl, 5'9" or above, you want to note that and note the skirt length. It appears to be just above the knee...not quite a mini...but if an average to short height lady got it home and it came below her knees, it would have a whole different look. In the photos, the eye goes to the legs, so you might want to show the whole manni and crop a bit more of her legs out to feature the dress more.

I would make sure to call this a "wrap front" dress. and mention the ruffles.

I want to say 60s on this, but i will wait for other experts. The bow i think would be droopier if it were 80s, and the waistline i also think is too high for 80s, but that is just me. I would wait for other experts though...

I wonder if I should retake the pics on the manni outside
I agree with your take on the 60s though, it just doesn't say 80s to me. I had a matching dress to it, in LIME green, but I just lost patience with it... and shame on me, it went to vintage heaven! Eeps! Well, it did have some unmanageable stains on it though ;)

definitely 60's. I think its a really pretty dress. I would give it a good steaming or ironing and possibly add an accessory to show how "smart" and modern it can look. Some dresses need a really good presentation for the people who dont have a good "vintage eye"!!!!!

ooohhh, I think that dress is super cute! ...and I also like things that draw attention to the leg as that's my best feature!!! ...what size is it? (will I regret asking that question?)

Oh yes, and it's got to be 60s... why else would I find it so fabulously cute?!

SOmeday we are going to have to create a chart for dresses that have hanger, mannequin, and wearing appeal, because so often you see something that looks like crap on the hanger but when you put it on - WOW, and visa versa...

Its definatley late 1960s. I think the problem is that it is a 'sweet' dress, not sexy or mod. I could see it being a bridesmaid or prom dress, with white patterned stockings blue low heeled shoes, blonde bouffant with blue ribbons in the hair and frosted pink lips.

I think there's deffinately a market for "sweet" 60s dresses though... wouldn't babydoll dresses fall into that category? Things that you wear with ringlets in your hair and super huge false eyelashes?

I do love sexy 60s and I do love mod gear, but this is the sort of dress I'd wear to have lunch with my dad or go shopping in... I think it's just perfect!

I can see a young gal wanting a unique dress to wear to a summer event that is not needing it to fit in with mod or hippie....with barely there strappy shoes instead of mod 60s shoes, a cute little purse....etc

I agree with Senti. It's totally sweet and there is nothing wrong with totally sweet!! I don't think it was ever meant to be a "Hot" dress. It's a dress for going out to dinner, the show, lunch etc with friends. It's 'sophisticated sweet'

If you want, I will share the photos with a buyer of mine. I'll bet you anything she would love it!! You can email me your asking price, measurements, fabric, condition etc. if you want me to show it to her. Also that gorgeous long pink chiffon float dress! I'll bet you dollars to donuts she would take them both in a heartbeat!

Just email me if you are interested!!

...I might want it too if it'll fit me... so me and Maureen's buyer will have to fight over it! ;) I'm becomming quite attatched to it already.

Oooooooh I love all the visuals I'm getting everyone! Bouffants & false lashes!!! Makes me feel like I should spent a bit more time on the pics ;)
Anyhoo, I'm going to get the wrinkles out, take new pics & measure it! I'll repost it next week with all the new info & we can take it from there! I'm so flattered everyone loves it so much! I feel guilty I pitched the matching green one - I should have just given it to one of you gal's to sort up. So silly *sigh*.
Anyhoo, I'll repost it on here on Monday and we'll go from there! :)

p.s. Maureen, the long chiffon dress is a "scheduled" listing, going up on Sunday. The way eBay's going (or NOT going), maybe I'd be better to see if your customer wants the long dress instead????

I the sweet dress is Senti's size and she wants it (which it sounds like she seriously does!!) than I won't try and fight her for it!!

I'll grab the photos of the pink one and send a quick email to my buyer. If she wants it, it will save you from having to go through with eBay.

I'll send her an email now.
