Just came off the newswire...
The fashion police are evidentally not working hard enough...what possessed the town to change its mind??
Uh Oh. Guess What's Legal at the Beach?
The elected officials of Cape May, New Jersey have agreed to lift a rule that has been in effect for more than 30 years, now making it legal for men to wear Speedos on the beach. Anything of the sort, specifically described as "skintight, formfitting, or bikini type," was expressly prohibited attire on any male over the age of 12 in this quaint, Victorian-themed resort town. Until now.
The Associated Press reports that another rule change allows men to stroll bare-chested along the beachfront promenade. Cape May takes the Victorian thing seriously. It's not just architecture. It's a way of life. A long time ago, the town required men and women to swim during different times of the day and forced them to wear heavy woolen swimsuits that covered almost all skin. Even today, most of the shops don't sell skimpy swimwear.
But see, here's the problem. The men who are most likely to take advantage of new situation and wear Speedos to the beach are the older guys. Men who are in their 40s and 50s. Big bellies. Tufts of hair in places you don't want to think about. Wrinkly skin. Tiny swimsuits. Ugh.
