My aunt and uncle visited for a few days, and my aunt solved the mystery of my possessed sewing machine.
I am almost embarrassed to say what was wrong with my sewing machine, and in fact you might even think I am a total idiot after this.
The light didn't work, the pedal didn't work, and when you turned on the switch the darn thing took off like mad at what seemed like 100mph. (and was extremely tangled.) It just sewed extremely fast and out of control like it had a mind of its own and wouldn't stop. I figured it had really just all tangled up, so my aunt looked at it to figure out what i had been missing. I hadn't touched the machine in months as it was just a mystery as to what was wrong.
Well, what had happened is that I somehow (don't recall exactly when!) I ran over the cord to the pedal with the vacuum cleaner just very slightly. I had no idea at the time. I don't have the best distance judgement and that is why. where the cord splices off into two and goes into the pedal, they were stripped in the exact same place and the bare wires were touching eachother! So what happen is that with them touching it was short circuiting itself out, and that was the reason it was acting possessed! LOL
The situation was remedied with electrical tape and now everything is in working order once again.
The moral of the story is to never run over a cord to a sewing machine pedal with a vacuum cleaner. I didn't see anything telling one not to in any manual, but I would strongly advise against it. And whenever you read a report of a possessed fridge or other appliance that seems to operate on its own, it probably is a short circuit rather than a sign of artificial intelligence lol
