The House of Eliott's back on tv

I see I can watch it on youtube, so that'll do me. Thanks for the reminder!

I stopped buying a TV License when I was quite broke one year, and started only watching TV on catch up. It's a habit now, so I still never watch anything live, and don't have an actual TV.

The clothes ARE great in House of Elliot, but the story did not appeal to me that much... I got so sick of the older sister moping about Jack.

However, NOTHING could be as bad as that Selfridges piece of crap - and the clothes suck in that one too. It is THE single worst piece of British television I have ever witnessed. I actually get angry watching it.

:hysterical:I watch it too, just for the story. I always find the ladies hair soooooo strange! Like it was all wired up! The one that made me mad is still The Paradise, and I didn't pursue it when the second series came around. Has anyone been watching Endeavour, by the way? I really don't get Morse (but then I haven't seen a lot of them yet), but like Lewis, so I tuned in to see what Endeavour was all about, and I do like it so far. I haven't got such a good eye for costuming and possible costuming errors - so to me it looks pretty good.

I absolutely loved House of Eliott! The clothes and the story.

And Jonathan, my first Selfridges disc arrives in the mail today from Netflix. And all I'm going to be able to do is think of you being angry. Would it be horrible to call you a cinematic killjoy, albeit an entertaining, and usually spot-on one, LOL?

Believe me, you wouldn't be the first one to call me a cinematic killjoy. I can't find ANYONE to go to the movies with me anymore unless its NOT a costume drama! lol
You should have heard me last night with Mad Men, and Megan showing up in some teenager's prom dress in her car at the airport - it was just ridiculous!

The funny thing about Selfridges is that some of the costuming is excellent - the shop girls all look great, but then they have Jeremy Piven's flourescent white teeth to contend with, and the hair and make-up are a big old mess, plus the shop girls wear the same outfit EVERY day for the entire first season. There were things that annoyed me but I can't remember now - I have blocked most of it from my memory!

I'm a fanatic for British period drama but simply could not get into Selfridges or The Paradise. (LOVE the chiclet teeth comment, LOL!) I just don't care for Jeremy Piven at all.

I do like House of Elliot very much, mostly for the clothes, I admit. The male-female relationships are not believable for me but the relationships between the women are well done, for the most part.

Mad Men had me completely absorbed all the way through season five. Season six started to lose me. Season seven... so far, meh.

OK, so, my error --> Selfridges did not arrive. It was "The Paradise," and so help me Jonathan, do NOT ruin this for me because I am loving it, LOL! My favorite outfits are the shopgirl uniforms. They just fit so beautifully and look so real to me. The final disk of season/series 1 has a behind-the-scenes feature, in which the cast members discuss and describe their wardrobe, and the other crew members discuss the set (which is HUGE and continuous and an actual street/shop). It was wonderful.

I won't say a thing.... speaking of which, if you want to see some REALLY EXCELLENT costuming rent The Invisible Woman. The costuming by Michael O'Connor is faultless. I am in awe of his research and superb reproductions, as well as styling. I now own the film and would show it to costume students.
